Trade and Integration

The Trade Section of the DTT supports the efforts of Member States to promote economic diversification and integration, trade liberalization, and market access that can lead, through expanded market and investment opportunities, to enhanced economic development, job creation, and poverty reduction.

The Trade Section has published a number of books on trends and developments in multilateral and regional trade and on specific trade disciplines.  In addition to in-house publications, these include several books co-published with organizations such as the Brookings Institution and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF)

This book takes stock of the remarkable progress to date in advancing free trade in the Americas. It examines trade flows within subregional groups and between members of these different arrangements. Contributors describe the main characteristics of the trade arrangements signed between countries of the hemisphere and explore the development of trade rules in these arrangements. Finally, the book details recent advances in the construction of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and concludes with a discussion of the non-economic dimension of interdependence in the hemisphere.

Originally prepared by the Trade Section for the FTAA Trade Ministerial in June 1995, this narrative is an overview and analysis of the evolution of trading arrangements in the Western Hemisphere.
