Social Protection Internship: Puente in the Caribbean
The Department of Social Development and Employment has organized a Social Protection Internship to be held in Santiago Chile on November 12 to 20, 2007. This internship represents a key component in the schedule of the Department's program “Network-Based Capacity-building on Social Protection Strategies in the Caribbean”. The pilot program which is jointly facilitated by the Solidarity and Social Investment Fund of Chile, seeks to strengthen social protection strategies in the Caribbean, utilizing the Chile Puente program as a model. The internship will bring together social protection agents from Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and Jamaica, with support from the University of the West Indies' Child Development Center. Primary activities include lecture sessions and field visits to communities and families in Chile which have benefited from the Puente Program.
