Progress on the preparation of the First Meeting of Ministers and High level Authorities of Social Development

The Director of the Department of Social Development and Employment of the OAS, Francisco Pilotti, met with the newly appointed Minister of Planning of Chile, Paula Ximena Quintana Meléndez, in order to advance on the preparation of the First Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities of Social Development, to be held in Chile on July 9 and 10, 2008.

During his visit, and as part of the various meetings held with the Minister and her team, they reviewed the agreements reached at the II Meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Social Development, which took place in October 2007 at the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC. These agreements include the themes and preparatory activities that were requested by member States for the ministerial.

The main goal of this meeting of ministers is to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences on the drafting and implementation of public policies to reduce the levels of poverty, and increase inclusion and equity throughout the Americas under a framework of democratic governance.
