Political Forums

Cultural policy dialogue, within the framework of the Organization of American States, takes place at two main levels: political and technical. The political forum is the Inter-American Meetings of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities that convenes every two years to review past accomplishments of the inter-American plan of action in culture, discuss current issues on the culture agenda, and set the priorities for the two years ahead. At the technical level, delegates from 34 Member States convene to the Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC) every two years (in alternate years to those of the Ministerial Meetings) to transform Ministerial mandates into concrete implementation plans.
