Preparatory meeting of II the Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and Authorities of Culture

Date: June 17 – 18, 2004
Place: General Secretariat Building of the OAS – 1889 F St. NW, Washington D.C., Room Padilha Vidal.

Objectives:
This meeting addresses the following objectives:

•  To analyze and discuss the Declaration and Plan of Action of Mexico City, to be approved during the
    II Ministerial Meeting on Culture

•  To define the Agenda of the II Ministerial Meeting on Culture, taking into consideration comments
    made by cultural authorities through the Virtual Forum of the CIC.

•  Discuss and analyze the three main topics of the II Ministerial Meeting on Culture:

     - Culture as an engine for economic growth, employment and development
     - Challenges faced by cultural industries
     - Culture as a tool for social cohesion and fight against poverty.

•  To determine the inputs and commitments of international agencies to support the Plan of Action of Mexico City.
    To comply with this objective, the international agencies will be observers during the Preparatory Meeting and will
    have a space for dialogue with cultural authorities during the afternoon of June 18 th .
