Teacher Education and Professionalization

The Inter-American Teacher Educator Network grew out of a request from numerous stakeholders involved in the preparation and professional development of teachers in the Americas to create an alliance that brought the myriad efforts together to find synergies and opportunities for collaboration. Many of its members are also members of other subregional bodies like UNESCO's RED KIPUS , PREAL's Teacher Working Group and COLAM's Teacher's Network in Latin America, CARICOM's teacher section in the Caribbean, the Commonwealth's Teacher Area in Canada and the Caribbean, Education International, ILO and UNESCO's CEART, Convenio Andres Bello's Teacher Project and the OAS Hemispheric Project on Teacher Education, to name but a few.

The alliance brings together policymakers, universities, teacher educators, union members, international and local researchers, accreditation bodies, international and regional organizations within an umbrella that seeks to support discussion, research, collaboration and action in the area of teacher education.
