The Trade Section of the DTT supports the efforts of Member States to promote economic diversification and integration, trade liberalization, and market access that can lead, through expanded market and investment opportunities, to enhanced economic development, job creation, and poverty reduction.

Program on the Implementation of Trade Agreements: 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and PROINVERSION, the OAS Department of Trade, Tourism and Competitiveness, UNCTAD, and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) with the support of several law firms: White & Case, Sidley Austin, Estudio Rubio, Leguía, Normand and Associates and Estudio Echecopar organized a national seminar and specialized workshops on investor-State disputes which took place on May 22-24 in Lima.

The seminar gave the opportunity to government officials involved in the implementation of the United States-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement and to representatives of law firms and the academic sector to deepen their knowledge on a series of issues related to the management of investor-State disputes.

Trade Capacity Building on Intellectual Property in the Andean Region:

  • Workshop on the “Exchange of Experiences and Best Practices on the Implementation of Intellectual Property Provisions in Trade Agreements.” Lima, Peru. November 15-16, 2006. Funding: CIDA. Organized in cooperation with the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade (MINCETUR).

  • Seminar on the Challenges for Ecuador and the Andean Community in the area of intellectual property. Quito, Ecuador. July 6-7, 2006. Funding: CIDA. Organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Fisheries and Competitiveness (MICIP) and The Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property (IEPI).

  • Seminar on “The Andean Free Trade Agreement and Copyright and Related Rights” for the Colombian private sector and civil society. Bogotá, Colombia. April 26-27, 2006. Funding: CIDA and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Organized in cooperation with the Copyright Office of Colombia and WIPO.

  • Support in preparation of Peruvian National Strategy for TCB on intellectual property that identifies and prioritizes needs in this area as a framework for projects to be presented to donor community. March 8-10, 2006. Lima, Peru. Funding: OAS. Organized in cooperatIntroductionMINCETUR).

Regulatory Reform and Services Trade Liberalization in the Andean Community:  Telecom and Financial Services.
