Bruce McCallum has a
degree in International Relations and Economic Geography from the University of
Manitoba. He began his career working for the newly formed Advanced Concepts
Centre of Environment Canada in Ottawa in 1973. His work focused on renewable
energy and other environmentally appropriate technologies. In 1977 he moved to
PEI and became increasingly focused on bioenergy development. He worked for the
Institute of Man and Resources and as a private consultant. In 1983 he became
Manager of Bioenergy Programs and Projects in the PEI Office of Energy, Mines
and Resources Canada. In 1987 he left the government and formed Ensight
Consulting which specializes in bioenergy development work.
Bruce is a private woodlot owner. He is a board member and past chair of the PEI
Forest Improvement Association and the PEI representative of the Canadian
Federation of Woodlot Owners. He has worked as a forestry journalist, writing
for Canadian Forest Industries, Forest Machine Journal in Scotland and
occasionally for other forestry magazines in Finland, Sweden and Germany.
Bruce is a founding member of CANBIO, the Canadian Bioenergy Association, and he
has been President since its formation in Winnipeg in 2002. He has organized
many bioenergy workshops all across Canada. He is also the Chair of the Maritime
Bioenergy Working Group which meets regularly to work on regional bioenergy
issues.
