Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) promotes the integration of values in business operations that will benefit the company and society as a whole. Due to its potential to promote development and growth, CSR has been an overarching theme for the leaders of the countries in the Americas , particularly during international meetings such as the Summit of the Américas.
These discussions have included the important role played by the private sector in key areas related to the eradication of poverty and the promotion of economic and social development in the region. These areas include labor, human rights, environment, governance, etc. The active embracement of CSR by the civil society, including business and labor organizations will contribute to the sustainable development of the region and for that, the Department for Integral Development (DID) considers it a key area of work.
Therefore, as part of the Agency's efforts in working with institutions from the private and public sectors and the civil society, the Division of Development Innovations and Alliances has become progressively involved on initiatives related to CSR, focusing on building capacity and working in a muti-sectorial approach with different Member States of the OAS. As part of the Agency's work in the area, the DID partnered with Forum Empresa an IMF to plan and implement a multi-phased, multi-year and multi-million dollar awareness, education, training, technical assistance and infrastructure-building project on CSR to be developed initially in four pilot countries: Brazil, Chile, El Salvador and Peru.
